Andrea Miller

I completed the  clinical psychology program at UNB under Sandi’s supervision. I had the opportunity to complete practicum placements at Alberta Hospital Edmonton and Saint John Community Mental Health, which allowed me to work with clients with a wide variety of difficulties. From August 2004 until August 2006, I worked in Dr. Sandra Byers and Dr. Larry Heinlein’s private practice; part of this work counted as an advanced practicum. While there I conducted psycho-educational assessments on youth, parenting capacity assessments, saw  therapy clients, and completed sex and relationship assessments and co-therapy . During the 2006/2007 year, I completed my clinical internship at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). I completed a major rotation on the adolescent inpatient unit which involved conducting diagnostic assessments with youth aged 12-17. I also completed a major rotation in Child Development, which involved assessing young children (generally under 5 years old) who were exhibiting signs of a pervasive developmental disorder or a global developmental delay.

As my first research apprenticeship, I completed a study comparing men’s and women’s actual and desired duration of foreplay and intercourse. My second research apprenticeship and my dissertation have focused on how clinical psychology graduate students and practicing clinical psychologists develop sexual intervention self-efficacy. Specifically, I examined how education and cognitive-affective factors relate to psychologist’s confidence and willingness to address clients’ sexual concerns.  I also was involved in a multidisciplinary research team at the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research. We evaluated dating violence prevention programs offered in New Brunswick

After the completion of my internshp, I worked at Child and Adolescent Family Services in Markham Stouffville Hospital for just under two years providing outpatient therapy and assessment.  Currently, I work at Brampton Civic Hospital providing assessment and therapy to children and adolesents both in the inpatient and day hospital programs. I am also part of Markham Psychologists, a group private practice in Markham, Ontario.  Withhin the private practice I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families and proivde both therapy and assessment.
