Call
for research participants – Manga readers needed for cross-cultural study I am a professor with the Information and Communication Studies Program at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John (New Brunswick, Canada). The research I am conducting is part of a project that I am developing on the reading and reception of manga in Japan and in translation to English for North American readers. I am interested in learning about their experience of reading manga, fan activities and any experiences producing dojinshi or other fan fiction. I am a fan and an avid reader of manga myself. I am currently in the development stages of what will be a larger cross-cultural study of manga readers in both Japan and North America. I have poor abilities when it comes to speaking Japanese (though I have been trying to learn) so I can only work with participants who are fluent in English. I'm also interested in broadening my interview base by conducting some online interviews with participants who don't live in the area. Seeking Japanese manga fans/readers If you are a reader of manga who has lived in Japan and read manga in
its original Japanese form then your participation would be highly
valued and greatly appreciated. I will only be able to interview
participants who can also communicate in English. Prior to the interview
phase there will likely be other opportunities for Japanese manga fans to
participate in this research. E-mail
me if you are interested in participating and keep checking this page for
updates on the research project. Those who make e-mail contact and
indicate an interest in participating may withdraw at any time and are not
obligated to participate in any phase of this research project as it
develops. Seeking North American manga fans/readers If you are a reader of manga in its translated format that has become increasingly popular in Canada and the U.S. then your participation would be highly valued and greatly appreciated. Prior to the interview phase there will likely be other opportunities for manga fans to participate in this research. E-mail me if you are interested in participating and keep checking this page for updates on the research project. Those who make e-mail contact and indicate an interest in participating may withdraw at any time and are not obligated to participate in any phase of this research as it develops. Privacy and Anonymity Your name, address, or other identifying information will not appear on
transcripts or notes of interviews. Your
personal identity will be masked and only as much detail as is necessary
to set context will be revealed. These
precautions are taken to ensure your anonymity in the event that specific
portions of the information which you provide are included in the
