If the human brain was simple enough for us to understand, we'd be so simple we couldn't understand!

Research

Courses

My two main areas of research are laterality and cognitive gender differences.

My current research in laterality focuses on the importance of bottom -up factors (such as hemispheric asymmetries, acoustic features, word frequency) and top-down factors (such as memory, attention, etc.) in the perception of language and emotions in the visual and auditory modality.

My work on gender-related differences in cognitive abilities  focuses on people’s ability to work with and mentally represent visuo-spatial relations in objects and how gender differences observed on such tasks can provide a way to better understand why women are not as well represented as men in areas relevant to sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM areas).
